Content-Aware Scale
You can resize a background image while preserving a particular object or text. Even though you reduce the size of a background image, an object or text remains as they are.
Steps
To scale a background layer
- Open the photo you want to make a background layer.
- In the Layer tab of the window, double click on the 'Background' image to change it to a layer.
If the Layer window does not appear, click Window > Options.
- Open another photo to overlap on the background layer.
- Click on the photo, which you just opened, and drag it onto the photo of the 'No Name' layer.
The photo changed to a layer is renamed with 'No Name'.
- In the Layer tab of the window, click on 'No Name' from the list.
- Click File > Content-Aware Scale.
The control pointers appear on the rims of the background image.
- Click and hold on one of the control pointers and drag it to resize the No Name image.
- Click the Crop icon on Tool Box after finishing the adjustment.
- Click the Yes button on the window to apply the adjustment.
- Crop the transparent area that might not be necessary.
- Click File > Save As to save the photo.
To change an object on the background
- Open the photo you want to make a background.
- In the Layer tab of the window, double click on the 'Background' image to change it to a layer.
- Open another photo to overlap on the background layer.
- Click on the photo, which you just opened, and drag it onto the photo of the 'No Name' layer.
- Click File > Content-Aware Scale.
- Click and hold on one of the control pointers and drag it to resize the object.
- Click File > Save As to save the photo.
To free transform an object
- Open the photo you want to make a background.
- Open another photo to overlap on the background image.
- Click on the photo, which you just opened, and drag it onto the background image.
- Press CTRL+T.
The control pointers appear on the rims of the photo.
- Click and hold on one of the control pointers and drag it to change its shape while pressing CTRL.
- Click File > Save As to save the photo.
