Content-Aware Scale

You can resize a background image while preserving a particular object or text. Even though you reduce the size of a background image, an object or text remains as they are.

Steps

To scale a background layer

  1. Open the photo you want to make a background layer.
  2. In the Layer tab of the window, double click on the 'Background' image to change it to a layer.
    If the Layer window does not appear, click Window > Options.
  3. Open another photo to overlap on the background layer.
  4. Click on the photo, which you just opened, and drag it onto the photo of the 'No Name' layer.
    The photo changed to a layer is renamed with 'No Name'.
  5. In the Layer tab of the window, click on 'No Name' from the list.
  6. Click File > Content-Aware Scale.
    The control pointers appear on the rims of the background image.
  7. Click and hold on one of the control pointers and drag it to resize the No Name image.
  8. Click the Crop icon on Tool Box after finishing the adjustment.
  9. Click the Yes button on the window to apply the adjustment.
  10. Crop the transparent area that might not be necessary.
  11. Click File > Save As to save the photo.

To change an object on the background

  1. Open the photo you want to make a background.
  2. In the Layer tab of the window, double click on the 'Background' image to change it to a layer.
  3. Open another photo to overlap on the background layer.
  4. Click on the photo, which you just opened, and drag it onto the photo of the 'No Name' layer.
  5. Click File > Content-Aware Scale.
  6. Click and hold on one of the control pointers and drag it to resize the object.
  7. Click File > Save As to save the photo.

To free transform an object

  1. Open the photo you want to make a background.
  2. Open another photo to overlap on the background image.
  3. Click on the photo, which you just opened, and drag it onto the background image.
  4. Press CTRL+T.
    The control pointers appear on the rims of the photo.
  5. Click and hold on one of the control pointers and drag it to change its shape while pressing CTRL.
  6. Click File > Save As to save the photo.
