Foxit PDF Editor provides robust, secure, and quick signature features to let you sign a PDF document.
Foxit eSign (Require a Separate Purchase)
Foxit PDF Editor integrates with Foxit eSign, a legally-binding electronic signature service. With a licensed account, you can perform an eSign workflow not only on the Foxit eSign website using a web browser but also within Foxit PDF Editor directly, which allows you to edit your documents and collect signatures with complete ease.
Create Your Own Signatures and Sign a PDF
- Tap Foxit eSign on the main toolbar at the top.
- On the Foxit eSign toolbar, tap to open the MY SIGNATURE dialog box, and do one of the following:
- Tap under the Full Name or Initials group to create a signature (Full Name) and the corresponding initials.
Note: The sign is displayed when there aren’t any signatures created yet or when there aren’t any initials created for the corresponding signature.
- Tap Manage Signatures, and choose Add in the pop-up Manage Signatures dialog box.
- Tap Create Signature.
- Tap under the Full Name or Initials group to create a signature (Full Name) and the corresponding initials.
- In the pop-up window, create your signature by any of the following methods:
- Tap to draw a signature.
- Tap to type the text content for your signature. After adding text, you can tap Change Style on the lower right corner of the window to change the font style.
- Tap to insert an image of your signature from your device.
- Tap to use your camera to capture the image of your signature.
Tip: When creating a signature from an image file, you can make your signature transparent without the white background by tapping on the upper right corner of the window and sliding the Remove White Background toggle to on.
- Tap to choose a signature from the online signatures you saved before.
- Tap Save on the top right corner of the window to save the signature.
- Tap on the Foxit eSign toolbar, and select your created signature on the signature palette.
- Tap on the document where you want to add the signature to.
- (Optional) Tap the signature to select it, and adjust its size or position if necessary.
- To resize the signature, drag any of the handles on the border of the rectangle. The signature will be resized proportionally.
- To move the signature, drag the rectangle directly to the desired place.
- Before applying the signature, you can tap Delete on the floating menu to delete the signature.
- Tap on the Foxit eSign toolbar to apply the signature and save the PDF file. For more information about saving a PDF file, please refer to “Save the PDF File”.
Manage Signatures
- Tap Foxit eSign on the main toolbar at the top.
- On the Foxit eSign toolbar, tap . Or tap on the Foxit eSign toolbar, and choose Manage Signatures in the pop-up MY SIGNATURE dialog box.
- In the Manage Signatures dialog box, do any of the following:
- Tap Add to create new signatures.
- Tap beside the signature you want to manage, and choose one of the following options:
- To save the signature to Foxit Web Service, tap Upload. The signatures saved in Foxit Web Service can be downloaded to sign PDF files from within Foxit PDF Reader or Foxit PDF Editor on Windows and Mac.
- To edit the signature, tap Edit, and follow the steps in “Create Your Own Signatures and Sign a PDF” to modify your signature.
- To delete the signature, tap Delete, and confirm your operation.
- Upon completion, tap Close to close the Manage Signatures dialog box.
Initiate an eSign Process in Foxit PDF Editor
To send your documents for eSignatures within Foxit PDF Editor, do the following to initiate an eSign process:
- Open the document you want to send for eSignatures.
- After logging in to your Foxit eSign account, tap Foxit eSign on the main toolbar at the top, and tap on the Foxit eSign toolbar.
- The current document will be uploaded to the Foxit eSign server and listed in the “Request Signature” window. Together with the document, you can add more documents to send for eSignatures.
- Add signers.
- Add the fields to the documents for signers to fill in, and assign the properties to the fields as required.
- Enter the email subject and messages and then send the envelope to the recipients.
- (Optional) You can view all envelopes you have sent in the Document Status window, which appears when you tap on the Foxit eSign toolbar.
The process to request eSignatures in Foxit PDF Editor is the same as in the Foxit eSign website, and you can refer to Foxit eSign Knowledge Base for detailed instructions.
Switch Foxit eSign Account
You may have multiple eSign accounts to address the needs of different organizations or differentiate the eSign workflow between personal and business uses. In this case, you can follow the steps below to switch the eSign account.
- Tap Foxit eSign on the main toolbar at the top.
- On the Foxit eSign toolbar, tap.
- Select the account from the list.
Quick PDF Sign
Quick PDF Sign enables you to create your self-signed signatures (ink signatures) and add the signature to the page directly.
Create a Signature and Sign a PDF File
- On the document pane, tap Fill & Sign on the main toolbar at the top.
- On the Fill & Sign toolbar, tap.
- Do one of the following:
- Tap on the upper right corner on the toolbar to choose the color and thickness as desired, and draw your signature in the pane.
- Tap to insert an image of your signature from your device.
- Tap to use your camera to capture the image of your signature.
Before applying the signature, you can tap to remove the signature, if necessary.
Tip: When creating a signature from an image file, you can make your signature transparent without the white background by sliding the Remove White Background toggle to on.
- (Subscription required) If you want to create a signature with a digital certificate, follow the steps below:
- Tap.
- Select a certificate from the list, input the password, and then confirm it.
- Tap OK.
Tip: To create a signature with a digital certificate in Foxit PDF Editor, you need to save the digital certificate on your device before creating the signature.
- (Optional) Tap (iOS) or (Android) to share your signature.
- Tap Save to save the signature.
- If you create a signature with a digital certificate, specify the following additional information in the Signature Preview window, and tap Save.
- Appearance Type: By default, Foxit PDF Editor will apply the standard appearance to your digital signature, which includes your identification information (name, organization unit, email address, etc.) and the reason/time you signed the document. You can tap Create New Type to create a new appearance by specifying what information is included in your digital signature, and then choose a custom appearance from the Appearance Type list. In the Appearance Type list, tapping beside a custom appearance type and choosing Delete can delete the custom appearance type from the list. (Tip: You cannot delete a custom appearance type that is applied in the current digital signature. When you delete a custom appearance type, the digital signatures previously created using the appearance will be deleted as well.)
- Location: Specify the location in which the document is signed.
- Reason: Choose a reason from the list to sign the document.
- Tap on the document where you want to add the signature to.
- If necessary, drag the corner handle to resize the signature, or drag the signature to move it to the desired location.
- Tap Sign to apply the signature.
- (Optional) After adding the signature, you can tap (iOS) or (Android) on the toolbar at the top to share the signed PDF document.
Tips:
- If you have created and saved signatures previously in Foxit PDF Editor, you should choose Create in the Signature List to create a new signature.
- Once applied, the signature cannot be edited or moved. The signature and all other changes made to the document will be saved.
Manage Signatures
- On the document pane, tap Fill & Sign on the main toolbar at the top.
- On the Fill & Sign toolbar, tap.
- In the Signature List dialog box, do the following:
- To create a new signature, tap Create at the top right corner of the dialog box, and follow the steps in “Create a Signature and Sign a PDF” to create your signature.
- To edit a signature, tap beside the signature that you want to edit, and choose Edit. Then follow the steps in “Create a Signature and Sign a PDF” to modify and save the signature.
- To delete a signature, tap beside the signature that you want to delete, and choose Delete.
- Upon completion, tap Close to close the Signature List dialog box.
Verify a Digital Signature (Subscription Required)
If a PDF document contains a digital signature, you can verify the digital signature to ensure that it is valid. The steps are as follows:
- Open the signed PDF document with Foxit PDF Editor.
- Do one of the following:
- On the document pane, tap the digital signature, and choose Validate Signature.
- Tap on the toolbar at the top (on tablets) or tap on the toolbar at the bottom (on phones) to open the navigation panel, and tap on the navigation panel to open the Digital Signatures pane. Then tap beside the digital signature in the Digital Signatures pane, and choose Validate Signature.
- The verification results will be displayed on the document pane. In the results panel, tap View Certificate to view the certificate.
- In the View Certificate dialog box, tap beside the certificate, and choose one of the options:
- Info: Check the detailed information about the certificate.
- Trust: Add the trusted digital certificate to the Trusted Certificate list. Then all the digital signatures with the certificate will be validated as valid.
View Signed Versions of a Digitally Signed PDF
For a document digitally signed several times, all the digital signatures and their corresponding versions can be accessed from the Digital Signatures panel. To view the previous versions of a signed PDF, please follow the steps below.
- Open the signed PDF document with Foxit PDF Editor.
- On the document pane, do the following to open the navigation panel:
- On tablets, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- On phones, tap on the toolbar at the bottom.
- Tap to open the Digital Signatures pane.
- Tap beside the digital signature, and choose View.
- The previous version will be opened in a new instance. To return to the original document, tap (iOS) or Close (Android).
Add Certificates to the Trusted Certificates List
When you validate or view properties of a digital signature, the validity status may display “unknown” or “could not be verified” if the certificate is not trusted. You can follow the steps below to add trusted certificates to the Trusted Certificates List.
- On the document pane, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Choose Protect > Trusted Certificates.
- Tap Add.
- Select the certificate, input the password, and tap OK.
Tip: Before adding a certificate to the Trusted Certificates List, you need to upload the certificate to Foxit PDF Editor or save it on your Android device.
