Foxit PDF Editor easily allows you to do the following:
Create a Folder
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface.
- Tap on the toolbar.
- Input the name of the folder.
- Tap OK.
Move the File or Folder
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface.
- Tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Select one or more files or folders that you want to move. Or tap Select all on the toolbar at the top to select all the files.
- Tap on the toolbar at the bottom.
- Choose the target folder, and tap Done .
Tip: Before moving a file or folder, you should create the destination folder ahead of time.
Copy the File or Folder
Do one of the following:
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface, and follow the steps below:
- Tapon the toolbar at the top.
- Select one or more files or folders.
- Tap on the toolbar at the bottom.
- Choose the target folder, and tap Done .
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad), and follow the steps below:
- Find the file or folder that you want to copy in the file list.
- Tap, and choose Copy.
- Choose the target folder, and tap Done.
Tip: Before copying the file or folder, you should create the destination folder ahead of time.
Rename the File or Folder
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad).
- Find the file or folder that you want to rename in the file list.
- Tap, and choose Rename.
- Input the name, and tap OK.
Share the File
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad).
- From the file list, tap beside the file that you want to share, and choose Share. Or, if you are in the Home page, tap at the top of the Recent list or All PDFs list, and tap Select. Then select one or more files that you want to share, and tap (iOS) or (Android).
- Select the sharing platform, and follow the instructions on the screen to complete sharing.
Upload the File
Do one of the following:
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface, and follow the steps below:
- Tapon the toolbar at the top.
- Select one or more files.
- Tap on the toolbar at the bottom.
- Select a cloud service which you want to upload the files to. If you haven’t added the cloud service in Foxit PDF Editor before, tap Add a Place to add the cloud service first (see “Add a Cloud Service” for details).
- Tap Done.
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad), and follow the steps below:
- Find the file that you want to upload in the file list.
- Tap, and choose Upload.
- Select a cloud service which you want to upload the files to. If you haven’t added the cloud service in Foxit PDF Editor before, tap Add a Place to add the cloud service first (see “Add a Cloud Service” for details).
- Tap Done.
Delete the File or Folder
Do one of the following:
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface, and follow the steps below:
- Tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Select one or more files or folders.
- Tap on the toolbar at the bottom, and confirm your operation.
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad), and follow the steps below:
- From the file list, tap beside the file that you want to delete, and choose Delete. Or, if you are in the Home page, you can also tap at the top of the Recent list or All PDFs list, and tap Select. Then select one or more files that you want to delete, and tap.
- Tap OK to confirm your operation.
Add Tags to Files
With Foxit PDF Editor, you can add tags to files to categorize them in groups, and access and manage your files quickly and easily.
Create and Manage Tags
Create a Tag
- Tap Files on the main interface.
- Tap Tag List in the Files list.
- Tap on the toolbar at the bottom.
- Input the tag name, and tap OK.
Rename or Delete Tags
- Tap Files on the main interface.
- Tap Tag List in the Files list.
- Tap Edit on the top right corner of the Tag List window.
- Select the tag, and do one of the following:
- To rename the tag, tap on the toolbar at the bottom. Then input a new name, and tap OK.
- To delete the tag, tap on the toolbar at the bottom, and confirm your operation.
- Tap Done to exit the tag editing mode.
Add Tags to Files
Foxit PDF Editor provides multiple ways for you to add tags and categorize files conveniently. You can add five tags to a file at the most. For tagged files, you will find a tag icon displayed in the file details (in List view) in Home or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad).
Add Tags to Files in the Tag List Window
- Tap Files on the main interface.
- Tap Tag List in the Files list.
- Tap the tag name to display all the files that contain the tag. The number shown beside the tag name indicates the number of files that contain the tag. You can also input a keyword in the Search box to search and find a tag.
- Tap on the toolbar at the top.
- In the Select File dialog box, select one or more files (or folders that contain the files you want to add tags to), and tap Done.
Add Tags to Files in the File List
To add tags to files listed in the Home or Files view, please follow the steps below.
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or File > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad).
- Tap beside the file or folder that you want to add tags to, and select Tags.
- In the Tags dialog box, do the following:
- Select one or more tags (five at the most) from the existing tags list.
- If you want to add a new tag to the file, tap , input the tag name, and tap OK. The new tag will be created and added to the Selected Tag group.
- All the tags that you have selected will be listed in the Selected Tag group. You can tap any tag in the Selected Tag group to deselect it, if necessary.
- Upon completion, tap Done.
Add Tags to an Opened File
Follow the steps below to add tags to a currently opened file in Foxit PDF Editor.
- On the document pane, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Select Tags.
- Follow the instructions on “Edit Tag Dialog Box” to add tags.
Tip: After adding tags to files, you can redo the operations mentioned above to update tags for the files.
Display Files with Tags
You can filter files by tags to quickly find the ones you need.
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad).
- Tap .
- (Optional) Tap Tag in the Search for list to filter files by tag name only.
- Tap the tag name in the Search Tag box, and the files with the tag will be listed. Then you can tap the file directly to open it in Foxit PDF Editor.
Remove Tags from Files
To remove tags from a file, please do any of the following:
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad), tap beside the file or folder that you want to remove tags in the list, and select Tags. Then unselect the tag(s) in the Tags dialog box, and tap Done.
- In the Tag List window, tap the tag name to display all the files that contain the tag. Then find the file or folder that you want to remove tag, tap , choose Delete, and confirm your operation. Please note that this method will remove one tag from the file. If you need to remove two or more tags from the file, please follow the instructions in Step 1 or Step 3.
- When the file you want to remove tags is opened in Foxit PDF Editor, tap on the toolbar at the top, and select Tags. Then unselect the tag(s) in the Tags dialog box, and tap Done.
Zip and Unzip the File or Folder
This feature allows you to reduce thefile size by compressing files and folders into a ZIP file, which helps to save storage space in your device.
To zip the files or folders:
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface.
- Tapon the toolbar at the top.
- Select the files or folders.
- Tapon the toolbar at the bottom.
- Input a name for the zip file, and tap OK.
To unzip the files or folders: tap the zip file directly.
Compare Two PDF Files (iOS Only)
- Tap Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad) on the main interface.
- Tapon the toolbar at the top.
- Select two PDF files that you want to compare.
- Tap .
Tip: Foxit PDF Editor currently only supports comparing two PDF files at a time.
Save the PDF File
Foxit PDF Editor can save the PDF files automatically to guard against losing your work in case of an application issue or your battery running out. If you want to turn off the AutoSave feature, please choose Discover > Settings, and then slide the Auto Save toggle to OFF. When the AutoSave feature is turned off, Foxit PDF Editor will remind you to save the file when you exit the current file without saving the changes.
You can save the PDF file after modifying it with the following steps:
- On the document pane, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Tap Save to save the changes and overwrite the existing file. (Tip: When the AutoSave feature is turned on, Foxit PDF Editor will save PDF files automatically, then the Save button will not be available.)
- Otherwise, choose Save As to save the file as a copy with the following steps:
- Tap the document name to rename the PDF file.
- Select the desired format:
- Original Document: save the original document.
- Flattened Copy (subscription required): save the flattened document to prevent further editing.
- Cropped Copy (subscription required): this option is only available after you crop the pages, which allows you to save the cropped document as a new copy.
- Reduced File Size Copy (subscription required): save the optimized document to free up storage space.
- Tap TAGS to add or update tags to the file. Please refer to “Edit Tag Dialog Box” for more information.
- In the PATH group, choose a location to save the file, and tap Done.
- Tap Save.
Flatten the PDF File (Subscription Required)
Subscribers can flatten a PDF file to make the images, text boxes, fillable elements, or other additions to the PDF become seamlessly integrated into the PDF and prevent further editing. The steps are as follows:
- On the document pane, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Tap Flatten.
Reduce the File Size (Subscription Required)
Foxit PDF Editor allows subscribers to optimize PDF documents to reduce file size and free up storage space.
Reduce the File Size in the File List
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g. On This iPad).
- Tap beside the file that you want to optimize, and choose Reduce File Size.
- Tap OK to confirm your operation.
Reduce the Size of an Opened PDF File
- On the document pane, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Tap Reduce File Size, and confirm your operation.
Tip: Please note that the optimized PDF file will overwrite the original file by default. Please save the original PDF file as a copy before optimization, if necessary.
View and Edit the Document Properties
Foxit PDF Editor allows users to check and view the document properties, including PDF Version, Title, Subject, Security, and more. Subscribers can also edit document title, subject, creator, author, producer, and keywords to identity a document better.
- Do one of the following:
- On the document pane, tap on the toolbar at the top.
- Go to Home > Recent/All PDFs or Files > On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad), tap beside the file in the file list.
- Tap the file name, and the File Information panel will be opened.
- (Subscription required) To edit the document title, subject, creator, author, producer, or keyword, tap the corresponding field and input the information.
- Upon completion, tap or anywhere outside the panel to close the File Information panel.
