Foxit PDF Editor is a powerful and easy-to-use PDF editor that allows users to view and work with PDF documents on mobile devices while on the go. Please follow the simple steps below to get familiar with Foxit PDF Editor:
About the Main Interface
The main interface in Foxit PDF Editor includes four different views:
- Home: This is the default view when you open Foxit PDF Editor. It gives you quick access to the recently opened files, all PDF files on your device, and PDF files that have been shared for real-time collaboration. It also includes a welcome wizard that introduces popular Foxit products and features for you to learn detailed information or access the functionality within Foxit PDF Editor with ease.
- Files: Get more file locations, which allows you to import files or access files from the tag list or cloud services.
- Tools: List the popular tools for you to quickly access a particular feature with a single tap.
- Template: Create a PDF file from featured templates.
On the main interface, you can also find a plus sign icon . It serves as a hub for file conversion and opening capabilities, enabling you to scan and convert files to PDFs, as well as open, create, convert, or merge PDF files.
Find a File
From the main interface, you can find and open a file from the following location:
- Home: Display all the local PDF files, recently opened files, and PDF files that have been shared for real-time collaboration. Files in the Recent and All PDFs lists can be viewed in two modes: List View and Thumbnail View. To switch between the two modes, tap
at the top of the Recent list or All PDFs list, and choose View as List or View as Grid respectively. When checking the local PDF files and recently opened files, you can tap
to search for files by tag name (for tagged files only) or file name.
- Files: Display more file locations and enable you to import files. It includes the following groups:
- On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad): Display all the files that are imported in Foxit PDF Editor or saved on your Android devices. You can tap
to search for files by tag name (for tagged files only) or file name. In this view, you can change the file display mode for a better viewing experience:
- Tap
to display the PDF files in thumbnails for easier file recognition. While in Thumbnail view, you can tap
to return to the List view.
- Tap
(on tablets) or <Sort By> (e.g., Name) group (on phones) to sort files by name, size, or the last modified time.
- Tap
- Cloud Documents: Display files that are saved in Foxit Cloud Documents.
- PC: Enable Wi-Fi transfer to import files from a computer to your mobile device.
- Tag List: Create tags and find tagged files (if any).
- iCloud Drive (iOS only): Display files that are saved on your iCloud Drive.
- Browse More Files (Android only): Browse through the file system to access more files saved on your Android device.
- Add a Place: Add a cloud service to access files thereof.
- On This <device> (e.g., On This iPad): Display all the files that are imported in Foxit PDF Editor or saved on your Android devices. You can tap
Display the Toolbars and Tool Tabs
The toolbars usually float at the top and the bottom of the document pane. You can tap anywhere on the document to hide or show the toolbars. Please note that if you have enabled page flipping by touch, you need to tap anywhere except the left or right side of the screen to show or hide the toolbars.
About the Main Toolbar
The main toolbar locates at the top of the application window. It displays the tool tabs (the main entrances for most of the functions), icons for the frequently used operations, and an expandable section to find more options.
Tool tabs on the main toolbar are displayed differently on phones and tablets:
- On phones, only one tool tab is displayed on the main toolbar. You can tap on the tab name to find more options from the list.
- On tablets, tool tabs are displayed dynamically depending on the screen size of your device. When the tool tabs are collapsed, you can tap the expand icon
next to the rightmost tool tab to find more options from the list. From the expanded tool tab list, you can find the “ON TOOLBAR” and “MORE TOOLS” groups. The items in the “ON TOOLBAR” group will be displayed on the main toolbar, while the items in the “MORE TOOLS” group will be shown as the collapsed options that can be found from the expanded tool tab list. You can drag the item in the expanded tool tab list to move a tab from one group to another or adjust its order shown on the main toolbar.
When you open a tool tab, all the related toolsets will be displayed on the secondary toolbar. Foxit PDF Editor allows you to customize the secondary toolbar.For more information, please refer to “Customize the Secondary Toolbar”.
About the Quick Access Toolbars
When you are in the Full Screen mode, the main toolbar is hidden from view, while the quick access toolbars will be displayed at the top and the bottom for you to quickly view page numbers, access your favorite tools (specified in the Home tab), add a bookmark to the current page, etc. If you want to hide the quick access toolbars in the Full Screen mode, please tapon the Home, Files (phones only), or Tools page, and slide the Display the top toolbar in full screen mode toggle to off.
Customize the Toolbar
Customize the Favorites Toolbar
Foxit PDF Editor adds the most frequently used tools in the favorites toolbar under the Home tab. You can add more tools (comments, edit, protect, or form tools) or remove an existing tool from the toolbar. To use the edit, protect or form tools, you will need to have access to the advanced features based on subscription.
- On the document pane, tap Home on the main toolbar at the top.
- Tap
on the Home toolbar.
- In the Add Tools window, scroll down in the Tool List to find the tools that you want to add to the favorites toolbar.
- For some tools that allow you to specify properties (like color and opacity), you will find a property setting icon (like
) beside the tool. Tap the property setting icon to specify its property, if necessary. If you do not specify the settings, the tools will be added with their default settings. You can add the same tool with different properties to the favorites toolbar, as needed.
- Tap
beside the tool to add it to the favorites toolbar.
- The tools you have added will be listed in the Added tools window. To adjust the display order of a tool in the Home tab, long-press the tool icon and drag it to the desired location in the Added tools window. If you need to remove a tool, tap the delete icon
on the top right corner of the tool icon.
- Upon completion, tap Close to exit and save your customization.
Customize the Secondary Toolbar
When you open a tool tab, all the related toolsets will be displayed on the secondary toolbar. Foxit PDF Editor provides you with the capabilities to customize the secondary toolbar to tailor to your preferences and enhance your workflow.
Rearrange Toolsets
Except for the Home tab, all the tool tabs include a “Reorder” option that enables you to adjust the order of toolsets displayed on the secondary toolbar.
To rearrange the toolsets in tool tabs (except for the Home tab), please follow the steps below.
- Tap
on the secondary toolbar to open the list of toolsets for the current tool tab.
- Tap and hold on
next to the toolset you want to rearrange, and drag it to the desired position.
Tip: For the Home tab, you can rearrange its toolsets in the Add Tools window during the customization process for the Favorites toolbar. For more information, please refer to “Adjust the Order of Tools in the Home tab”.
Show or Hide Text Descriptions for Buttons
To help you better understand the tool icons and select the appropriate tool for a specific function effectively, Foxit PDF Editor displays text descriptions for each toolset under the Edit, Foxit eSign, View (tablets only), Form, Protect (tablets only), Fill & Sign tabs by default. If you are already familiar with Foxit PDF Editor, you can follow the steps below to hide the text descriptions for buttons to make the interface simpler and cleaner.
- (For tablets) On the main toolbar, tap
next to the rightmost tool tab, and slide the “Button Text Description” toggle off.
- (For phones) On the main toolbar, tap on the tab name to expand the tool tab list, and slide the “Button Text Description” toggle off.
Tip: The text descriptions for buttons on the secondary toolbar are only displayed when the secondary toolbar is shown in the horizontal mode. They will be hidden from view if the secondary toolbar is shown vertically.
Move the Secondary Toolbar (Tablets Only)
The secondary toolbar is displayed in horizontal mode by default. If you are using Foxit PDF Editor on tablets, you can move the secondary toolbar to show it in vertical mode on either the left or right side of the document pane. When it is displayed in vertical mode, the text descriptions for the buttons on the secondary toolbar will be hidden from view.
- Long-press
on the secondary toolbar, and you will find the purple rectangles on the top, left, and right of the document pane.
- To display the secondary toolbar vertically, drag it to the purple rectangle area on the right or left of the document pane.
- To display the secondary toolbar horizontally, drag it to the purple rectangle area at the top of the document pane.
Configure Application Settings
Foxit PDF Editor allows you to customize settings such as automatic form filling, annotation authors, measurement units, and more. To change your settings, please tap on the Home, Files (phones only), or Tools page on the main interface.

Support Center
Foxit PDF Editor offers an AI-powered customer support tool called Foxit AI Chatbot, which can provide personalized assistance based on your specific needs. Utilizing natural language processing and machine learning algorithms, Foxit AI Chatbot can understand user queries and respond with answers. It can assist you in using a specific function or performing certain tasks by providing step-by-step instructions based on Foxit resources, such as Foxit Knowledge Base.
To access the Support Center, make sure the AI Assistant service is enabled in Settings, and follow one of the steps below:
- (Tablets only) On the main interface, tap
on the lower right corner of the Home, Files, Tools, or Template page, and choose Support Center.
- On the document pane, tap
on the lower right corner, and choose Support Center.
In the Support Center, you can:
- Input your questions and interact with Foxit AI Chatbot. All your interactions within the current conversation will be listed in the Support Center panel. If you need to clear your chatting history of the current conversation, please tap
at the top right corner of the Support Center panel.
- Tap
at the top of the panel to submit a ticket online or obtain the contact information for Foxit.
- Tap
at the top of the panel to share your feedback with Foxit.
