Foxit PDF Editor’s integration with ChatGPT takes advantage of AI-Generated Content (AIGC) to make end users more productive. It provides the following capabilities:
- Chat with AI Assistant – Use natural language processing (NLP) to provide users with detailed responses to their questions in real-time.
- Chat about Document – Analyze the document and answer user questions based on PDF content. Advanced options are available for image-based documents or those with attachments, allowing for OCR processing before analysis or specific attachment analysis.
- Summarize Text/Document – Generate a concise and accurate summary of a given text input or a document. It analyzes the content of the text and identifies the most important information to include in the summary, using natural language processing and machine learning algorithms.
- Enhance writing of the text – Use machine learning to automatically paraphrase or rewrite text while maintaining its original meaning. This service is designed to help users generate new content from existing text, such as for content marketing, SEO, or simply to improve the clarity and readability of writing.
- Content Translation – Translate selected text or entire documents into corresponding languages.
- Spelling and Grammar Correction – Automatically detect and correct spelling and grammar errors in your content.
- Content Explanation – Provide concise explanations and definitions for selected text.
- Smart PDF Commands – Automatically execute the associated commands in Foxit PDF Editor based on users’ inputs that indicate what tasks they want to perform.
The AI services are enabled by default. If you want to disable the feature, choose File in the Ribbon (or Foxit PDF Editor in the menu bar) > Preferences > General > Application Startup, check Disable AI Assistant, and restart the application. When the AI services are enabled, you can do any of the following to access the AI services:
- Click Home > AI Assistant.
- Click the
icon in the lower right corner of the application window. - Select any text content in your document and choose a tool from the floating toolbar to perform tasks.
Once you have started the AI services, the AI Assistant tab will appear in the right panel of the Foxit PDF Editor window. In the AI Assistant tab, you can click the Chat sub-tab to enter text messages and chat with AI Assistant (or click the Chat about document button in the sub-tab to have a conversation specifically about the current document), choose the Translate sub-tab to translate selected text or document into corresponding languages, or click More tools to access additional tools as needed.
To help you familiarize yourself with using AI Assistant, you can click the icons located at the top right corner of the AI Assistant tab. The icons provide the following functions:
- Quota
: By hovering your cursor over this icon, you can view your usage statistics for the AI services. This includes the total number of prompts and pages you are allowed to use per day/month as well as the number you have already used. Foxit PDF Editor currently offers a free quota, which consists of 50 prompts/questions per user per day (with a maximum of 2000 characters per prompt) and 100 pages per user per month for document analysis and summarization. - Instruction
: Click this icon to quickly access a guide on how to use the AI services.
Depending on the specific AI service you are using, you may have additional options available. For example, you can click the Output Language 
button to set the desired output language, and the Clear History 
button to delete all the message records you previously interacted with AI Assistant. Additionally, you can specify tones (Formal, Professional, Funny, etc.) and the desired length for the output text when enhancing text writing. When performing document analysis, you can also find the following options to control over how AI Assistant analyzes the document:
- Chat about document
: It works in the same way as the “Chat about document” button in the Chat sub-tab, which enables the AI Assistant to analyze the document and lets you start a conversion with AI Assistant about the document. If the document contains attachments, this icon will dynamically change to 
after the document analysis completes. You can click 
to select the file attachments within the document and continue to perform document analysis specifically on the selected attachments. - Analysis settings
: Configure the automatic analysis settings that enable the AI Assistant to automatically analyze the currently-opened document or automatically run OCR on image-based document during the document analysis, in order to improve the analysis speed and accuracy. - Re-analyze
: Re-analyze the document to get the updated information. This is useful when changes and modifications have been made to the document.
Foxit PDF Editor’s AI Assistant, powered by ChatGPT, may produce inaccurate information about people, places, or facts.
