Export PDF to MS Office

Export PDF to Word and PowerPoint files

1.         Click File Export or Save As. Or navigate to the Convert tab. 

2.         Select the format you want to convert the PDF to.

3.         In the pop-up dialog box, specify the file name and location for the output file. Optionally, you can click Save to ECM to save the output file to ECM systems and cloud services including SharePoint, ndOffice, OneDrive-Personal, Google Drive, ShareFile, DMSforLegal, Dropbox, Box, and eDOCS DM. Select View Result to open the output file after the conversion process is completed.

4.         (Optional) You can select more options from “Settings” in the Save As dialog box before saving the file. Take exporting PDF to Word files for instance. In the Save as docx setting dialog box, select the exporting options:

Page Range: chooses the page range you want to export.

Content Settings: specifies whether to include the comments and images in the output. This option is not available for exporting to plain text files or if you choose Image-based document in Export Engine Settings.

Layout Settings: which is only available when you export PDF to Word and RTF files, specify whether to retain the text flow or page layout in the output. This option is not available for exporting to plain text files.

Export Engine Settings: If the PDF is primarily images and non-text objects, the Image-based document option is recommended. If you choose Image-based document, click Set Language to select the language for OCR.

Restore Default: reverts to the original default settings.  

5.         Click Save.

NoteTo convert a PDF to Word, you can directly right-click the file and choose Convert to Microsoft Office with Foxit PhantomPDF.


Export PDF to spreadsheets

1.         Click  File Export, or navigate to the Convert tab.

2.      Choose To MS Office > (To) Excel or XML Spreadsheet 2003. (Tip: You can also export it through File > Save As.)

3.         In the pop-up dialog box, specify the file name and location for the output file. (Tip: When exporting PDF to Excel files, you can click Save to ECM to save the output file to ECM systems and cloud services including SharePoint, ndOffice, OneDrive-Personal, Google Drive, ShareFile, DMSforLegal, Dropbox, Box, and eDOCS DM.) Select View Result to open the output file after the conversion process is completed. 

4.         (Optional) You can select more options from “Settings” in the Save As dialog box before saving the file. Take exporting PDF to Excel files for instance. In the Save as xlsx setting dialog box, select options as needed.

Page Range: chooses the page range you want to export.

Numeric Settings: specifies the decimal and thousands separators, so that Foxit PhantomPDF will recognize the numeric data based on your setting. The settings are not available if you choose Image-based document in Export Engine Settings.

Auto detect decimal and thousands separators – detects the numeric settings based on the document.

Treat the following as decimal and thousands separators – selects this option and select symbols for the decimal and thousands separators.

Excel Workbook Settings: chooses an option to create worksheets. The settings are not available if you choose Image-based document in Export Engine Settings.

Create single Worksheet for the Document – The PDF will be exported to a single Worksheet.

Create Worksheet for each Table – Each table in the PDF will be exported to a separate Worksheet. (Note: A table in a PDF is not always displayed in Table form with columns and rows. The application sometimes considers the head and tail of the page as virtual tables, so there is also a situation where non-Table content is displayed separately on a Worksheet).

Create Worksheet for each Page – Each PDF page is exported to a single Worksheet.

NoteThe exported Worksheets are automatically named as “Table1”, “Table2”, “Table3” …

Export Engine Settings: If the PDF is primarily images and non-text objects, the Image-based document option is recommended. If you choose Image-based document, click Set Language to select the language for OCR.

5.         Click Save, and the Excel file will be created and opened in the corresponding application.


Export PDF to XPS files

1.         Click File > Export, or navigate to the Convert tab.

2.         Choose To MS Office > (To) XPS. (Tip: You can also export it through File > Save As.)

3.         In the pop-up dialog box, specify the file name and location for the output file. Select View Result to open the output file after the conversion process is completed. 

4.         (Optional) You can select more options from “Settings” in the Save As dialog box before saving the file. In the Save As XPS Settings dialog box, select options as needed.

Page Range: chooses the page range you want to export.

File Format: select the Use .oxps format option to convert the PDF to an .oxps file. This option is available for Windows 8 and higher versions, and is unselected by default.

Restore Default: reverts to the original default settings. 

5.         Click Save, and the XPS file will be created and opened in XPS Viewer.
